Why Should You Listen to Me?

Because I know what it's like to have a never ending to-do list and wonder if you'll ever find a balance that's aligned with your heart.

I know because I've been in your overwhelmed shoes! Back in 2018, I was completely overwhelmed. I had a complete mental breakdown and felt that I had truly hit rock bottom. I had just had my second baby in just over a year (13 months to be exact), and I was struggling to balance taking care of our house, my two kids under 2, my work, keeping up with friends and family, and nurturing my relationship with my husband, while still trying to show up for myself,) and it was hard. I felt like there was just no way I could do it all, so I went into what I call survival mode. I felt like each day I was simply reacting to whatever was thrown at me. There was no strategy, no control, and no hope. I felt lost, overwhelmed, and depressed. I wondered when I would ever feel like I had a life or when I would ever be able to pursue my own dreams again, instead of just being a mindless slave zombie.

I’d be lying if I told you that I had some
random epiphany that there was a better way.

The reality is that I felt frustrated for a long time, and that frustration led me to start looking for solutions. I started reading articles online about productivity, and being the type A personality that I am , I immediately thought if I just controlled every aspect of my life, things would get better. I bought every planner and every productivity book I could get my hands on thinking each one would solve all of my problems. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to stick with any of them for more than a few weeks. 

I started to realize that my issue wasn’t my productivity. What I needed was a complete lifestyle change. One that supported my dreams, my relationships, and my sanity. 

Towards the end of 2018 and early 2019 I got to work. I spent a lot of time digging deep, doing a lot of heart work and mindset work. Since organization and time management have always come naturally to me, I decided to focus my time on building a lifestyle framework, not simply a productivity or schedule building framework.

Once I figured out that it was possible to pursue my dreams and still show up for myself and the people who are important to me, I knew that I needed to share what I had learned with other women who were in the same boat. I had spoken to so many other women of every age group about the work I was doing and every one of them expressed their similar frustrations with their own task load - and many of those conversations ended up shaping the foundation of the Simple Little Genius program. I wanted other women to experience the same level of peace that I was finally able to find.

So I decided to share the 5 Simply Magic Keys with the world:

  3. Set SIMPLE goals

  4. Build Routines and Schedules

  5. Implement the Tending 5 Every Day

 

Why Simply Magic?

Before you jump in and start learning how to apply the Simply Magic Lifestyle to your life, I want to take a moment to explain why I chose the name Simple Little Genius for this program.

I chose the word Simply because this program is largely based on Simplifying. Not that you just need to eliminate activities, responsibilities, and relationships to the point where you are left wondering why you even wake up each day (which is essentially what happened to me after I burnt out in 2018). It’s that I want you to choose with a purpose what you allow into your life. I want you to be spending your precious energy and resources on the things that will bring you the most joy and happiness while simplifying the rest so it doesn’t bog you down. We are the gatekeepers to what we allow into our lives. This is about being selective. 

Now as to why I chose magic…. I wanted this program to be largely about working SMARTER not harder. Putting into place systems and processes that allow us to quickly move through the boring and repetitive tasks each day so we have more time and energy for our hobbies, our people, and our dreams. It’s not that you're going to just simplify everything, it’s that you're going to simplify the things that aren’t very important to you, and the things that are just standing in the way of you doing what you actually want to be doing. This will allow you to create magic in the areas of your life that are the most important.

Here’s an example:

If you love cooking, you can absolutely be magical at it!

You can spend all your time researching new recipes, trying them out, grocery shopping, kneading bread by hand, making pasta from scratch, etc… you get the idea. I’m not going to sit here and tell you that you shouldn’t spend your time doing that because there is a simpler and quicker way to get meals on the table. If that’s something you like doing, you should be spending MORE time doing it and be proud of your accomplishments in it. But if you’re anything like me, you dread cooking. It’s really just another chore, but it has to get done every day (to my never ending annoyance). So instead of trying to be a rockstar at it,

I’m going to simplify it using some of the tools I share in the Simply Magic Lifestyle workshops and guidebooks.

Ultimately, my hope is that this program
will change your perception of productivity.

This isn’t about getting more done each day.
It’s about getting more out of each day. 

 

Here are a few things I believe in

Schedules and Routines…

are the on-ramps to your final destination, they are not the end result. They are intended to help you get to where you want to be, like how a screwdriver would be used to unscrew a screw. The goal is to get the screw out, not to use the screwdriver. Routines and Schedules allow you to organize your thoughts and structure your day, but they are not goals themselves.


Your worth…

is not determined by how much you get done in a day.


Being mindful of your current season…

allows you to set appropriate expectations of yourself, and to adjust your lifestyle to your current energy levels, time, and resources.

No one else can do the work for you…

the heart work, the mind work, or the goal work. You have to choose to show up for yourself consistently and let go of the excuses.


Remember to celebrate progress…

(no matter how small) over perfection.


The Simple Little Genius Lifestyle is about building a lifestyle…

around your specific needs, energy level, goals and habits. I’m not going to tell you to do xyz to live the perfect life. I’m going to give you the tools you need to build your own lifestyle, catered to you and you only.
